Matresence Support & Care
A complementary care program for women during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period in Norway
Becoming a mother is one of the most profound transitions in a woman’s life. Yet in Norway, this transition is often navigated with limited continuity of care, short hospital stays, and fragmented follow-up once a woman returns home.
Matresence Support is designed as a supplement to the public healthcare system. It offers continuous, holistic, and individually tailored care for women throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, with particular emphasis on the first weeks at home after birth.

About Christina Egeland Ness
I work as a matrescence support provider, offering care and guidance to women through pregnancy, preparations for birth, the postpartum period and the transition into early motherhood. My work is grounded in the understanding that becoming a mother is not only a physical event, but a profound emotional, psychological and relational transformation.
I am a certified Jivamukti yoga teacher, trained in India, with specialisation in pregnancy and postpartum yoga. Through years of study and practice, I have developed a deep respect for the body’s intelligence, the nervous system, and the importance of rest, nourishment and gentle movement during times of transition.
My approach to matrescence support has been shaped both by professional training, education and lived experience. During my own postpartum periods, I saw clearly how little continuous care many women receive after birth, and how deeply this affects recovery, wellbeing and the early bond between mother and baby. This insight led me to study widely, speak with healthcare professionals across disciplines, and build a care model inspired by best practices from countries such as Germany and the Netherlands, where postpartum support is recognised as essential.
I work closely with midwives and other professionals, and when needed, my care is offered in collaboration with professional follow-up. My role is not to replace public healthcare, but to complement it by providing continuity, presence and practical and emotional support tailored to each woman’s needs.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to care for the mother as a whole person. I offer a calm, respectful and non-judgmental presence, supporting women and their family in a phase of life where being held, supported and not left alone can make a profound difference.
